Transferred to the Prosecutor of the Environment to illegal dumping situation Blanca (16/07/2009)

Ecologists in Action Murcia Region has given to the Prosecutor for the Environment and Urban all information available regarding the landfill located in a protected area.

After years of complaints, and the breach of several resolutions of closing the landfill, located underground in a protected area, has been closed in appearance, but not yet restored the area affected by the discharges, which still presented a deplorable appearance.

Ecologists in Action has recently moved to the Prosecutor for the Environment all the information at its disposal, including written reports and presented in recent years by the organization, referring to the illegal dumping of Blanca.

And a document detailing the numerous violations that, in the opinion of this organization have been committed to enable the operation of a facility that, as demonstrated in the administrative, did not have any type of authorization.

The environmental group has complained repeatedly that, despite the closing resolutions passed after the complaints in recent years, both the company managing the landfill, as the owner of the facilities, the City of White, have remained in operation them, causing a major environmental degradation in a nature reserve.

The illegal dumping of White occupies a plot of forest groups listed (Monte Municipal Consorciado No. 41 called "The Navel and El Solano"), owned by the City Council Blanca and is within a protected area: Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA ) Sierra de Ricote, the Navel.

Discharges in recent years have thrown without any control, have affected, in addition to a public waterway, the Rambla de San Roque.

The environmental organization has expressed particular concern as there is, besides the environmental impact in an area of great ecological value, a serious fire hazard.

Ecologists in Action understood, therefore, that, regardless of its closure has occurred recently, could have criminal responsibility should be investigated, and has sent the Prosecutor concern that has been in operation for at least six years with a normal total landfill in a protected natural space for it without any authorization or urban or environmental.

The association believes that those responsible for the landfill (management company and City of White) may have committed a crime against the environment and natural resources (classified under the Penal Code art. 325 to 331).

And he warned that the apparent closure of the landfill is not enough, because the area has a deplorable aspect, with tons of waste accumulated over the years that have buried the site's natural vegetation.

Ecologists in Action believes that the apparent closure of the facility should not put an end to this matter and demand an investigation into the criminal responsibility could have, and to compel those responsible to pay the costs resulting from the regeneration and environmental recovery the environment affected by the landfill.
