White City Council requesting the declaration of a disaster area (12/08/2009)

Concern over rising unemployment, especially of women, related to the sectors of food handlers is of great importance to the locality.

Full White City Council has decided to send urgent application to declare a disaster area to the garden of the municipality.

After the rains with hail that occurred on Sunday 9 and Monday 10, the fruit crops of the town of Vega del Segura have suffered terrible damage that will hurt the farmers, as most fruit crops are on the ground or still in the tree, but damaged by the so-called "stone" with the locals, which particularly affects crops of peaches, pears, nectarines and grapes.

A first estimate is determined that the disaster has affected at least 50% of the acreage.

The main problem has been the vines, in full germination of the crop.

The municipal mayor, Rafael Laorden, said that "it is important that the City is to their farmers after the terrible rains that have destroyed much of the crop and a large number of trees.

It is necessary to include White as a disaster area to compensate farmers and contribute to the effort of all, these rains are less harmful to our local economy. "

Therefore, the Consistory shall request the National Government's declaration of disaster area and the Regional Government assessment of the damage caused by the rains and to facilitate the farmers in the area, access to aids that enable the impact minoritised on its economy.

"Not only has been growing and the trees have been damaged many infrastructures such as irrigation ponds, Laorden added.

The impact on crops has been so strong in the town of Blanca that some agricultural areas need to be replanted to return to normal production, so that not only affects crop this year, but also the capacity to produce over the next campaigns.

For the Consistory of Blanca another major concern is the employment of women involved in the export sector of fruit, a business with high rates of occupancy and food handlers.

Is expected to increase the unemployment rate in this area, so that the City ask the SEF increased public support, particularly related to women, and increased personal INEM addressed to the county councils.
